Kajian kinetika lepas lambat kation Fe(III) dan Cu(II) yang terikat pada
komposit alginate/bentonit-Fe(III)-Cu(II) telah dilakukan dalam media air. Pada
penelitian ini, dibandingkan dua jenis komposit yaitu komposit dominan alginate
(3:1) dan komposit dominan bentonit (1:3). Kadar Fe(III) dan Cu(II) dalam
komposit telah ditentukan sebelumnya. Desorpsi kation Fe(III) dan Cu(II) dari
masing-masing komposit dilakukan dalam media air selama 168 jam. Kation
Fe(III) dan Cu(II) yang terikat pada komposit dan yang terlarut dalam air
dianalisis secara kuantitatif menggunakan spektrometer serapan atom (AAS).
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa desorpsi Fe(III) dalam sistem air
tidak dipengaruhi oleh kadar Cu(II) yang terikat pada komposit. Peningkatan
kadar Cu(II) memiliki pengaruh yang lebih besar pada komposit (3:1)
dibandingkan dengan komposit (1:3). Tetapan laju pelepasan Fe(III) dan Cu(II)
dari komposit (3:1) secara berturut-turut 0,0028 mg/jam dan 0,0478 mg/jam
sedangkan pada komposit (1:3) secara berturut-turut 0,0007 mg/jam dan 0,0172
mg/jam. Pelepasan optimum Fe(III) dan Cu(II) dari komposit (1:3) masingmasing
tercapai pada 72 jam sedangkan pada komposit (3:1) masing-masing
tercapai pada rentang waktu 168 jam.
